Nutrition Intervention Webconference in conjunction with the International Academy of Nutrition & Aging

As part of Abbott Nutrition’s commitment to continuous professional development, we are delighted to present healthcare professionals with a 4-part webconference series on nutrition intervention. These series are being hosted by several leading experts in the area of nutrition and will outline the challenges and solutions facing healthcare professionals in managing the nutrition of the older person.

The webconference series include:

(1) Nutrition and Aging – Prof Alan Sinclair (March, 2010)

Impact of aging on the nutritional status and requirements, malnutrition prevalence in hospital and community, malnutrition causes and consequences in the older person, health economic impact of malnutrition (NICE guidelines), fight against malnutrition movement.

(2) Nutrition Intervention – Prof Francesco Landi (May, 2010)

Brief review of nutrition screening and assessment in the older person, oral nutrition supplementation in hospital and community indication and benefits, challenges, influencer of compliance.

(3) Alzheimer, Weight Loss and Nutrition – Prof Martha Clare Morris (July, 2010)

Impact of Alzheimer on nutritional status and requirements, prevalence of weight loss and malnutrition, nutritional issues and specific nutrient deficiencies related to Alzheimer and the drug therapy, oral nutrition supplementation goals, types and benefits.

(4) Sarcopenia: A Promising New Approach - Prof Jurgen Bauer (October 2010)

Sarcopenia definition, causes and consequences of loss of muscle and strength, and reduced mobility and functionality, the role of nutrition and exercise in preventing and treating sarcopenia, promising therapies on the horizon.
